چکیده

Many large-scale scientific applications require the processing of complete data sets made of individual data segments that can be manipulated independently following a single analysis procedure. Workflow managers have been designed for describing and controlling such complex application control flows. However, when considering very data-intensive applications, there is a large potential parallelism that should be properly exploited to ensure efficient processing. Distributed systems such as Grid infrastructures are promising for handling the load resulting from parallel data analysis and manipulation. Workflow managers can help in exploiting the infrastructure parallelism, given that they are able to handle the data flow resulting from the application’s execution. To handle users’ processing requests, two main strategies have been proposed and implemented in Grid middleware: the task-based approach, where a computing task is formally described before being submitted; and the servicebased approach, where a computation handled by an external service is invoked through a standard interface. Both approaches have led to the design of different workflow managers. They significantly differ

Workflow-level Parameter Study Management in multi-Grid environments by the P- GRADE Grid portal

Workflow applications are frequently used in many production Grids. There is a natural need to run the same workflow with many different parameter sets. Unfortunately current Grid portals either do not support this kind of applications or give only specialized support and hence users are obliged to do all the tedious work needed to manage such parameter study applications. P-GRADE portal has be...

P-GRADE Portal: A generic workflow system to support user communities

P-GRADE portal is an open-source multi-grid portal that supports creation, execution and management of traditional and parameter study workflows on gLite and GT-2 infrastructures. However, some user communities need support for other grid types, like desktop grids or the Amazon EC2 cloud, as well. In this paper we will present the internal architecture of P-GRADE Portal as well as the implement...

Solving the grid interoperability problem by P-GRADE portal at workflow level

Grid interoperability has recently become a major issue at Grid forums. Most of the current ideas try to solve the problem at the middleware level where unfortunately too many components (information system, broker, etc.) should be made interoperable. As an alternative concept the PGRADE portal is the first Grid portal that tries to solve the problem at the level of workflows. It means that the...

Workflow Support for Complex Grid Applications: Integrated and Portal Solutions

In this paper we present a workflow solution to support graphically the design, execution, monitoring, and performance visualisation of complex grid applications. The described workflow concept can provide interoperability among different types of legacy applications on heterogeneous computational platforms, such as Condor or Globus based grids. The major design and implementation issues concer...
